About Me

Sewing has always been sanctuary, my haven. Somehow quilting tiny stitches onto a piece of fabric, or patching two pieces of cotton together makes everything seem a lot better. During my teaching career, even after a long tough day leading a central London Primary School, just five minutes of sewing in the evening would restore my inner calm

Since the beginning of time men and women have been piecing together natural fibres to give comfort and warmth. This continues today into the twenty first century in our desire to make beautiful articles to clothe us and to decorate our homes.

Largely self-taught, I found at an early age such satisfaction from cross-stitch or quilting. Wherever I have lived or travelled, the sewing has always been there too. I love the idea that what we create becomes part of us. Into every stitch we sew our dreams, our thoughts, our secrets. Sewing is the antithesis of our busy, stressful lives, giving us time to reflect and to re-energise.

I love the idea that what we create becomes part of what we leave behind. We know now, more than ever, that it is far more satisfying to give a gift that will be treasured and passed on, rather than something that will last a few years and then be disposed. When we are gone our quilts, our wall hangings, our teaching, our inspiration will live on and remembered.
